A BLESSED NEW YEAR!

.
MAKING MY EXCUSES...
Several things have kept me from blogging recently. Some of them pleasant reasons: First, I’ve been able to spend time walking downtown and even hiking in the woods twice because my back has been so much better, thank God. Second, people have been asking me for a half-hour here and an hour there just to listen and talk. Third I’ve been back in the book-writing mode for the first time in about 9 months, which consumes a lot of time. Oh, and let’s not forget that the new semester of school starting on Jan. 4!
Some of the reasons for not getting around to my blog are less happy, such as the wake and funeral for our Brother Gereon Reuter O.S.B. who went to the Lord on Saturday, Jan. 2 after a long losing battle with Alzheimer’s.

MEMBERSHIP IN THE BENEDICTUS CLUB

I do want to mention at least one thought that sprang from the Christmas gift I received of being pain-free. I know that the back pain will eventually return, but this pleasant period of relief has not only been a nice way to start off the new year, but has also helped me to get yet another perspective on pain. When I asked myself if I would have to drop out of the Benedictus Club temporarily as long as I'm not experiencing any pain, I realized how very much I've come to identify with the millions of people around the world who are in pain of one kind or another; I realized that as a human being I’m in solidarity with them and with everyone on the planet regardless of how I may be feeling on any given day. We are all, I now know, members of the Benedictus Club!

Whether with the pain or without it, I hope that the Lord will let me continue to share some of my thoughts and meditations with you during the new year.

.........Have a blessed 2010!
